Obverse description In the upper field, the Tetragrammaton (יהוה) in Hebrew within a star-bordered frame amid clouds and radiating rays, with the armored arm of Frederik Hendrik brandishing an upraised sword emerging below. In the middle ground, a panoramic view of the city of Breda with its fortifications is depicted, flanked on the left by a canal boat laden with peat entering the city walls (alluding to Maurice of Orange's stratagem of 1590), and on the right by the personification of Breda as a crowned woman being throttled by the gaunt figure of Famine (referencing Spinola's siege of 1624–25). The artist's signature and privilege notice appear in the lower field.
