Obverse description Bare-headed bust of Lieutenant John Chard VC facing slightly left, with beard and moustache, in high relief against a mirror-polished field. The circular legend around the rim reads 'BATTLE OF RORKE'S DRIFT · 22 JANUARY 1879' at top and '· JOHN CHARD VC ·' at bottom. The engraver's name FAGHARI appears at the base of the bust.

Reverse description A densely composed high-relief battle scene depicting British soldiers and Zulu warriors in close combat, with rifles, spears, and Zulu shields prominently rendered.
