Obverse description Two crossed naval ensigns in high relief occupy the central field, with a trident rising centrally between them and an anchor at the base. A shield bearing the date '31 MAY 1916' is displayed at the junction of the flags and trident. The surrounding legend reads 'TO THE GLORIOUS MEMORY OF THOSE WHO FELL THAT DAY', separated by dot stops, within a beaded inner border.

Reverse description The reverse features a large open oak wreath in relief framing a multi-line commemorative inscription in the field. The maker's name 'SPINK & SON 1916' appears in small letters in the exergue at the base.
