Reverse description Britannia seated left at centre, holding a trident-staff and a shield, her feet resting upon a globe showing Australia and Tasmania. She is framed beneath a classical arch, the piers of which bear the names and founding dates of the Australian colonies. The arch legend reads UNITY IS STRENGTH and FEDERATION 1901. Flanking foliage decorates the outer field, and a ribbon scroll in the lower exergue bears the word ADVANCE.
