Obverse description Left-facing truncated bust of Captain Arthur Phillip in 18th-century naval uniform with powdered wig, rendered in high relief. The identification legend CAPTAIN ARTHUR PHILLIP appears in the field to the right of the bust, with the engraver's signature AMOR visible at the bottom of the field. The circular legend AUSTRALIA'S 150TH ANNIVERSARY runs around the upper periphery, with the dates 1788–1938 along the lower border.

The circular legend runs around the upper periphery and the date appears along the lower border, flanked by six-pointed star ornaments.
