| Obverse description | Full-length allegorical female figure in classical robes striding forward against a radiate sunburst background, raising one arm aloft holding a lightning bolt and carrying a sheaf of wheat in the other hand. The legend BANCO DE PORTUGAL arcs along the left rim, with the designer's and sculptor's credits inscribed in small lettering in the lower field. The design reproduces the allegorical figure of Peace as it appeared on the Portuguese 50 Escudos banknote of 1922. |
