Obverse descriptionImage of the sculpture `Stand to the death!`. It is located on Mamayev Kurgan in Volgograd as part of the memorial complex `To the Heroes of the Battle of Stalingrad`. It was opened on October 15, 1967. The monument depicts a soldier, petrified to the waist, but not retreating a single step, continuing to defend the Motherland from the invaders with his chest. Together with the ruined walls rising behind him, the sculpture recalls the heavy street fighting that took place in this area during the Battle of Stalingrad.
