| Obverse description | The obverse features two submarines in high relief set against a stylised sea: in the upper field, an engraved profile of NRP Espadarte, the Portuguese Navy's first submarine (1913), rendered in fine incised lines; in the centre and lower field, a boldly modelled modern submarine shown partially surfaced with a figure visible on the conning tower. The anniversary legend and dates are integrated into the central field, with the engraver's signature SOUSA MACHADO incised vertically at the right. |
