Obverse description High-relief bust of Christopher Columbus facing right, wearing a period costume with a ruffled collar and draped garment. The name CRISTOFORO COLOMBO is inscribed in the field on either side of the effigy. The engraver's signature G. GIROMETTI F. appears in small letters along the lower exergue.

Reverse description Central arms of Genoa — a shield bearing a plain cross — surmounted by a mural crown, supported on each side by a rampant griffin. A small bust in profile appears on the base below the shield. The engraver's name SPERANZA is inscribed on the base. A circular legend surrounds the composition, with the Roman date MDCCCXCII at the bottom flanked by five-pointed stars.
