| Obverse description | The field is divided into two registers: in the upper register, a crowned figure of the Virgin Mary holding the Christ Child stands in high relief above a crescent moon, flanked by the Latin legend in two columns on either side. In the lower register, a fallen knight in full armour lies prostrate on a rocky foreground, evoking a defender who fell during the Great Siege of Malta. Small engraver signatures appear in the lower exergue. |
