| Obverse description | The annular field replicates the counterstamped face of the original 1813 New South Wales Holey Dollar, itself derived from a Spanish colonial 8 Reales piece. Visible within the ring are remnants of the original host coin's design, including foliate and heraldic elements in the central zone. The outer legend reads CAROLUS • III • DEI • GRATIA in raised Latin characters around the upper periphery, while NEW SOUTH WALES arcs across the inner border of the hole. The date 1813 appears at the base of the inner ring and • 1788 • is struck at the foot of the outer annulus, commemorating the year of European settlement in New South Wales. The entire outer rim is bordered by a fine milled edge, faithfully reproducing the appearance of the original counterstamped issue. |
