Obverse description Right-facing bust of Henrik Wergeland in relief occupies the upper right of the field, flanked by a laurel branch. To the left, a procession of figures carrying flags is depicted in low relief. The dates 1814-1902 appear in the upper field, with a legend in the lower right. The engraver's name Throndsen is inscribed in the lower field.

(Translation: Hooray for May 17th, and for Henrik who instituted the day.)
Reverse description A large ornate silver cup or chalice depicted in high relief dominates the center of the field. The legend arcs along the top of the coin, and flanking inscriptions appear to the left and right of the cup in two columns. Two small stars appear in the lower field.
