Reverse description An open book inscribed with the text IBSENS VÆRKER rests above a shield bearing the date 17DE MAI and the year 1899, with a star at the base of the shield. Radiating lines suggestive of the Northern Lights (Aurora Borealis) emanate from behind the book in the upper field, while oak branches forming a wreath flank the central composition on both sides.
