Obverse description Standing winged Victory figure in relief, facing slightly left, holding a palm frond in her left hand and resting her right hand on a shield bearing the Norwegian lion. A suspension loop is integral to the top of the medal, and the border is formed by a raised beaded rim. The engraver's initials appear in the lower exergue.

Reverse description The reverse features a horizontally lined field framed by two oak wreaths, one arching across the upper half and one across the lower half. A central raised band bears the inscription '17DE MAI 1890' in bold relief lettering.
