Obverse description The obverse depicts in high relief the rocky pog of Montségur surmounted by the Cathar fortress, with a radiant sun above. In the lower left portion of the field, a detailed architectural floor plan of the fortress is rendered in low relief. The legend includes the dates 1204 and 16 MARS 1244, referencing the founding and fall of the Cathar stronghold, with the name MONTSÉGUR inscribed along the lower rim.
