Reverse description The upper portion of the field features a shelf in relief displaying a group of open and closed books, the central open volume inscribed with a reference to Vesalius's De Humani Corporis Fabrica (Basel, 1543). Below, the entire field is occupied by a lengthy French-language commemorative inscription in multiple lines of incuse lettering, all within a raised rim.
