Obverse description A plain cross pattée occupies the central field, enclosed within a beaded inner circle. The surrounding legend reads ANFVS REX in Latin characters, distributed around the circumference between the inner and outer borders. The flan is irregular and slightly concave, characteristic of hammered billon coinage of 11th-century Castile. The execution is bold but somewhat crude, consistent with the primitive striking techniques of the period.
