Obverse description Central field bears a cross pattée enclosed within a plain inner circle, dividing the field into four quarters. The cross is rendered in a bold, somewhat irregular style characteristic of hammered Iberian medieval coinage. Surrounding the inner circle, the Latin legend reads +ANFVS REX, identifying the issuing monarch Alfonso VI. The coin exhibits the crude but expressive workmanship typical of Leonese billon issues of the late eleventh and early twelfth centuries.
