Obverse description Central field bears a square cartouche within a circle, containing a three-line Arabic religious and dynastic inscription naming Allah, the Prophet Muhammad, and the ruling imam al-Rashid. The four segments formed between the inner square and the enclosing circle carry the mint name and AH date. The overall design follows the traditional Moroccan hammered square-in-circle format, with legends executed in angular Kufic-influenced script.

Additional information

The mazuna series issued under Moulay al-Rashid, the founder of the Alaoui dynasty, reflects an administration still consolidating power after decades of Saadian fragmentation. Al-Rashid unified most of Morocco by 1669, but mint activity remained geographically distributed and output inconsistent. The Rabat al-Fath attribution distinguishes this piece from parallel issues at Fes and Marrakesh — all struck within the same narrow window before al-Rashid's death in 1672, reportedly from a head injury sustained falling from his horse during a garden celebration.
