| Obverse description | Central field dominated by the prominent Chola dynastic symbol of the standing tiger, rendered in a bold, stylised manner characteristic of early medieval South Indian coinage. The tiger is flanked by subsidiary emblems including what appear to be a fish and a bow, the traditional insignia of the Chola, Pandya, and Chera royal houses respectively. The design is executed in high relief with schematic, almost abstract lines typical of hammered copper issues of this period. The flan is irregular and slightly convex, with design elements extending nearly to the unraised rim. |

| Reverse description | The reverse bears a Grantha script legend occupying the majority of the flan, identifying the issuing ruler Raja Raja Chola I. The characters are rendered in the early Grantha script tradition common to Tamil dynastic copper coinage of the late 10th century, arranged in two or three lines across the field. The individual akshara forms are bold and deeply struck, though the irregular flan causes some characters to be partially off-flan. The field is otherwise plain, without border or decorative elements. |
