Reverse description Within a reeded inner circle, a large Gothic letter A is prominently displayed in the center of the field, flanked by four pellets arranged symmetrically in the quarters. The surrounding legend, referencing the city of Ferrara, is punctuated by a fleur-de-lis and terminates with a small civic shield of Ferrara. The bold Gothic letterform and decorative stops are typical of the Este mint's production during the reign of Leonello d'Este.
