| Reverse description | Arabic inscription in two or three lines across the irregularly shaped flan, struck in low relief characteristic of hammered Ottoman provincial copper coinage. The legend reads 'Misr Mahrusa' (مصر محروسة), identifying Cairo as the mint city and invoking the designation of the city as a protected or sacred territory. The script is cursive Arabic, boldly engraved though uneven in execution due to the hand-hammered technique. The flan edges are irregular and show typical planchet flaws consistent with Ottoman mangir production. |
