Obverse description Crudely struck hammered copper flan bearing a multi-line Arabic legend in the field, reading the mint name and date formula. The inscription is arranged in three lines within a plain field, typical of Ottoman mangir coinage of the reign of Suleyman I. The lettering, struck in relief, shows the characteristic angular style of Ottoman script of the mid-sixteenth century. The irregular flan edges and uneven strike are consistent with hand-hammered production at the Constantinople mint.
