Obverse description Central field occupied by a bold Arabic legend arranged within a rectangular cartouche with thick framing lines, characteristic of early Ottoman hammered coinage. The inscription, rendered in angular script, occupies two or three lines and contains the sultan's name and titles. The cartouche is enclosed within a plain circular border. The overall flan is irregular and slightly broad, with a rough, porous copper surface displaying natural dark patination. The die workmanship is typical of fourteenth-century Anatolian mint practice, with uneven strike and slight double-striking visible.
