Additional information

The Isfendiyarid beylik, centered on the Kastamonu and Sinop regions of northern Anatolia, occupied an awkward geopolitical position for most of its existence — caught between the expanding Ottomans to the west and the Anatolian rivals to the east. Anonymous copper coinage of this type reflects the administrative reality of a small frontier polity: no ruler thought it worth stamping their name on the lowest denomination, yet enough trade moved through Sinop's Black Sea port to make striking it worthwhile.
