Obverse description Draped and cuirassed bust of Emperor Arcadius facing right, adorned with a pearl diadem, the emperor depicted holding a spear over his right shoulder with a shield displayed before him. Above the bust, a divine hand descends from the upper field proffering a wreath, a common heavenly-legitimacy motif of late Roman imperial coinage. The portrait is rendered in the stylized, frontalized manner characteristic of Theodosian-era bronzes. The encircling Latin legend reads D N ARCAD-IVS P F AVG, identifying the emperor as Dominus Noster Arcadius, Pius Felix Augustus.
