Obverse description Central field dominated by a large capital letter A rendered in bold uncial style, enclosed within a plain inner circle. The surrounding legend, struck in uncial characters, reads the ruler's name and title. The flan is irregularly shaped and slightly convex, typical of hammered medieval low-denomination coinage. The overall design is stark and architecturally geometric, characteristic of Flemish feudal mailles of the late 12th century.
