Obverse description The outer border consists of a large fleur-de-lys wreath enclosing seven additional lilies set within lobed ovals (oves). In the central field, a châtel tournois is depicted surmounted by a small shield bearing the ancient arms of Burgundy, flanked by two pellets. Above this arrangement, an inner wreath formed by three fleurs-de-lys separated by two grains intersects the outer decorative border at the crown of the die. The overall composition reflects the stylized Gothic heraldic idiom characteristic of mid-fourteenth-century French feudal coinage.
