Obverse description Crowned and bearded male head facing right, rendered in low relief in the Persian Achaemenid artistic tradition. The crown appears as a stepped or tiered headdress, and the beard is rendered with stylized linear detail. The design occupies the full flan of this diminutive hammered silver piece, with the irregular planchet cutting off portions of the effigy at the edges. The style reflects the influence of Achaemenid court imagery as adapted by local Samaritan die-cutters of the fourth century BC.
