The medal is a silver laurel wreath surrounding a gold medallion featuring the effigy of the Republic (left profile), surrounded by a circle of blue enamel. The whole is surmounted by an inter-army trophy featuring an anchor, two crossed cannons, a breastplate, an axe and a sword.
