Obverse description Full-length figure of William Tell in medieval costume standing in a rocky alpine landscape, his right arm outstretched holding a crossbow bolt, a crossbow held in his left hand. The legend FREIHEIT to the left and VATERLAND to the right frames the figure in the field. Engravers' signatures appear at the lower rim.

Reverse description Central device featuring a large ornate heraldic shield with a Swiss cross, surmounted by a traditional Swiss marksman's hat at 12 o'clock, all set against radiating sunburst lines filling the field. Shooting targets are visible to either side of the shield. The circular legend around the perimeter reads CENTRAL-SCHWEIZERISCHES SCHÜTZENFEST IN LUZERN 1889.
