Obverse description Central field features the cross of Savoy — a plain cross — set within a raised inner circle or shield-like frame, itself enclosed within a beaded or rope border. The legend encircling the periphery reads the duke's name and title in abbreviated Latin. The overall design is characteristic of late medieval hammered coinage from the Savoyard mints, with flat, irregular flan typical of the period. A mint mark or letter appears in the lower portion of the field, likely denoting the Cornavin (Geneva) mint.
