Obverse description Draped bust of the nymph Arethusa facing right, her hair elaborately bound with a tainia and rendered in flowing waves. The letter H appears in the left field, while a single olive leaf is positioned to the right of the bust. The portrait is executed in the refined Sicilian style characteristic of the late fifth century BC, with delicate facial features and graceful hair treatment typical of Syracusan coinage of the Second Democracy period.
