| Obverse description | Facing right profile portrait of Arethusa, the nymph, rendered in archaic Greek style with fine linear detailing. The hair is gathered and looped upward beneath a plain taenia (headband), with individual strands carefully delineated. A beaded pearl necklace encircles the neck. The effigy is executed with characteristic simplicity of the early Syracusan coinage tradition, occupying the full width of the flan. |
