Obverse description Eagle standing to the left with closed wings, rendered in archaic Sicilian style with careful attention to feather detail. The bird is depicted in profile, its talons gripping the flat field, with the tail feathers fanning to the right. The ethnic legend ΕΡΥΚΙ-ΝΟΝ (in archaic Greek retrograde and standard characters) surrounds the type, distributed across the field. The compact flan and bold, slightly crude engraving are characteristic of early Siceliote coinage of this period.
