Obverse description Facing head of a young male deity, most probably the river-god or a local hero, rendered in the archaic-to-early-classical Sicilian style characteristic of the late fifth century BC. The face is depicted full-front with large, almond-shaped eyes, a straight nose, and parted lips; the hair falls in thick, undulating locks to either side of the face, framing it symmetrically. The entire device is enclosed within a border of small raised dots, forming a neat beaded circle that defines the coin's type field.
