| Obverse description | Youthful head of Dionysos facing left, crowned with an ivy wreath rendered in fine archaic style. The god's features are delicately modeled, conveying the characteristic idealized beauty of late fifth-century Sicilian die-cutting. Below the neck truncation, a small incuse letter Π — the engraver's signature mark attributed to Prokles — is faintly visible in the field. The ethnic legend ΝΑΧΙΩΝ appears around the periphery. The overall composition reflects the accomplished artistry of the Naxian mint at its peak. |
