Obverse description Half-length armored effigy of the duke facing right, rendered in Romanesque style, depicted wearing a helmet and chain mail. The figure holds a lance or spear adorned with a pennant flag in the right hand, while the left hand may bear a shield. Fragmentary letter forms are visible in the field to the left. The design is enclosed within a beaded inner circle, itself set within the irregular flan typical of hammered coinage of the period.
