Obverse description Central field dominated by a large Gothic letter L surmounted by a royal crown, all enclosed within a beaded inner circle. The crowned L, monogram of King Louis XII, is rendered in a bold, stylized Gothic manner typical of late medieval French coinage. A circular legend runs between the beaded ring and the irregular flan edge, containing the royal titulature. The overall design is characteristic of the hammered billon coinage of Provence under French royal administration.
