Obverse description Crowned royal bust facing left within a circular legend. The crowned head displays a stylized portrait of Henri III, with the crown rendered in low relief above. The surrounding legend reads HENRICVS.III.D.G.F.POL.R.F.G.Z., identifying the king as Henri III, by the grace of God King of France, Poland, etc. The design is characteristic of the hammered billon coinage of the later Valois period, struck with irregular flan edges.
