Reverse description Central field features a long cross pattee dividing the field into four quarters, with a crowned Gothic letter K (for Karolus) in the first quarter and a Breton ermine spot in an adjacent quarter. A mint mark appears at the base of the cross. The design is enclosed within a beaded inner circle. The surrounding circular legend in Gothic lettering reads SIT NOMEN DNI BENEDICTVM, a Scriptural invocation meaning 'Blessed be the name of the Lord,' standard on French royal billon coinage of this period.
