| Obverse description | A crowned dolphin facing left occupies the central field, rendered in the late medieval French hammered style. The dolphin, a heraldic symbol of the Dauphin of France, is depicted in profile with stylized fins and tail. A beaded inner circle frames the central device. The surrounding legend, separated by a mint-specific differentiating mark, reads KAROLVS FRANCORV REX or variants thereof depending on the issuing mint, identifying Charles VIII as King of the Franks. |
