Obverse description Crowned dolphin facing upward in the central field, rendered in low relief characteristic of hammered billon coinage of the French Renaissance period. The dolphin, symbol of the Dauphin of France, is depicted with its characteristic curved body surmounted by a royal crown. A circular Latin legend surrounds the central device, reading HENRICVS III D G F POL R F G Z, identifying Henri III as King of France and Poland. The flan is irregular and slightly uneven, as is typical of hammered coinage of this era.
Obverse script Latin
Obverse lettering HENRICVS.III.D.G.F.POL.R.F.G.Z.
