Obverse description A crowned leopard passant to sinister occupies the central field, rendered in high relief in the Gothic style characteristic of Edwardian gold coinage. The feline figure is contained within a tressure of ten arches, with quatrefoils placed at the cusped points and filling the spandrels between arches. The encircling legend, separated from the tressure by a beaded border, identifies the issuer in Latin. The overall composition reflects the bold, heraldic artistry typical of English feudal gold coinage of the mid-fourteenth century.
