| Obverse description | Crude hammered field bearing the names of the twelve Shi'a Imams arranged within compartments or squares, with the Kalima (Islamic profession of faith) disposed around the periphery as a marginal legend. Due to the irregular flan and the nature of the hammered striking technique, only portions of the design are typically legible on any given specimen. The inscriptions are executed in Arabic script and exhibit the rough, unrefined character typical of early Safavid provincial coinage. |
