Reichenau's coinage rights were an anomaly even by the fragmented standards of the Holy Roman Empire — the island abbey on Lake Constance had exercised minting privileges since the medieval period, and the lordship's late survival into the eighteenth century produced issues that circulated almost exclusively within the immediate region. Thomas Franz von Bodman, who held the lordship through this period, struck these billon kreuzers under authority that was already being squeezed by larger territorial powers. The series ended with the lordship's absorption before mid-century.
