Obverse description Central quartered shield bearing the four-fold arms of the Bishopric of Chur, enclosed within a beaded inner circle. The date 1623 appears in the upper portion of the surrounding legend. The circular Latin inscription reads MO·NO·EPISCO·CVR·1623, denoting the monetary authority of the bishop of Chur. The shield displays alternating heraldic charges in each quadrant, rendered in the relief style typical of early seventeenth-century German ecclesiastical coinage.

The eagle, symbol of the Holy Roman Empire under Ferdinand II, is depicted with spread wings and facing dexter. The surrounding Latin legend FERD·II·RO·IMP·SE·AV acknowledges the suzerainty of Holy Roman Emperor Ferdinand II, rendered in the abbreviated titulary convention standard for Imperial coinage of this period.
