Reverse description A boldly struck cross pattée occupies the central field, enclosed within a raised inner circle. The surrounding peripheral legend, reading ✠ SANCTVS + VRSVS + 79, invokes Saint Ursus, the patron saint of Solothurn, with cross and pellet stops separating the words. The final numerals 79 refer to the year 1579, the latest date associated with this type. The lettering is rendered in Gothic script consistent with mid-to-late sixteenth-century Swiss cantonal coinage practice.
