| Obverse description | Central field dominated by the episcopal coat of arms of the Bishopric of Sion, displayed on a shield surmounted by a bishop's mitre and flanked by a crosier to the right. The shield bears the characteristic arms of the see. A partial Latin legend encircles the device within a beaded border, reading AD : D · RIED · EPS · S, referencing Bishop Adrian von Riedmatten. The die-work is typical of mid-seventeenth-century hammered coinage from the Swiss episcopal mints. |
