Obverse description Central field depicts a mounted rider, representing the Tsar, astride a galloping horse facing right, wielding a lance or spear in the traditional wire-money style. The figure is rendered in the schematic, abbreviated manner characteristic of Russian chekha (wire) coinage of the period. Cyrillic date numerals appear beneath the horse's hooves, recording the year in Old Church Slavonic notation. The design is struck on an irregularly shaped planchet cut from flattened silver wire, resulting in the typical elongated, uneven flan of Moscow wire kopecks.
